Coming Soon: Made in Manitoba Offsets
The Manitoba government supports GHG emissions reductions projects in the province. GreenRegistry.org calculators and offsets page will be linked to these programs so that the money you pay to purchase offsets will be used to fund GHG emissions reductions projects in Manitoba. Manitoba is investing in programs to reduce GHG emissions from transportation, agriculture, municipal services (like waste management and sewage treatment), plus energy efficiency through Manitoba Hydro programs. Once the GHG emissions reductions from these initiatives are measured you will be able to select the types of projects that you wish to support when purchasing offsets. Until made in Manitoba offsets are available from GreenRegistry.org, use your carbon footprint calculation to purchase offsets from other sources.
Purchase Verified Emissions Reductions Directly
You can find projects that have reduced GHG emissions around the world listed on the GHG CleanProjects™ Registry. This registry maintained by CSA (Canadian Standards Association) does not list offsets for sale, but rather gives details on organizations that have completed projects to reduce GHG emissions. In order to offset your carbon footprint you can contact the project proponents directly and negotiate the purchase of VERs (verified emissions reductions) directly from the organizations that delivered the projects. These VERs can be used to offset your GHG emissions. This approach is suited to businesses wishing to purchase larger volumes of offsets. To view the projects go to www.ghgregistries.ca.
